Hi Nic, thanks for your reply.

No, it doesn't burn oil at all. Between oil services there's not even a need to top it off, the marking on the dipstick stays where it's at. It doesn't smoke on starting or deceleration either. I was thinking of this myself, but it isn't what causes this. Ah well....

Thanks again.

I think the dirt on rear end is a result of burned oil. Does your engine take oil? In this case, it is most likely that you have to repair the fittings (Dichtung) of your valves.
Kind regards
Nic

Hello.
On the rear end of my Alpinweiss 525i there's always kind of a brown/yellow "versmutzung". If I'm correct this is caused from "dirty" exhaust gasses, cars with cat don't seem to have this trouble. It's pretty stubborn stuff and can only be removed by polishing, but it always returns after some time. It's looks dirty, and all that polishing all the time isn't good either....
What can be done about this? Will a chrome exhaust tip help maybe?
Thanks.

Thanks Matthias.

I heard that a chrome exhaust tip could help because when you fit it approximately evenly with the rear bumper, the gasses leave the exhaust further away from the backside, so the effect would be a rear end that would stay clean longer. Shame that it won't make a difference. I've seen this on all E28's without Kat. But you're right, the car does return a lot of pleasure, in my humble opinion it's even better in a lot of area's than a lot of brand new middleclass cars!

Thanks for your kind reply.

Hi Yogi,
the same problem with my colour,"Bronzitbeigemetallic", but you can´t see it
so much like on your Alpinweiß. It´s a ´84 without Kat.
We have, I think, to live with this, but the main is, it drives and sounds good. A chrome exhaust doesn´t help.
Kind regards, Matthias.
